2023 - Warsaw

WORKPLACE

Details

Following the success of their main Warsaw headquarters, Ørsted expanded their footprint to the very top of the Varso II building. The challenge was to adhere to their rigorous global workplace guidelines while giving this specific floor a fresh, highly localised character. Rooted deeply in human-centric design, neurodiversity, and biophilia, we created a space dubbed "hygge vind" (Danish for wind). By maximising deep natural light and introducing a soothing, coastal colour palette, the new floor acts as a steady heartbeat for the organisation. Anchored by a stunning central mosaic made entirely of ceramic waste, this space elevates Ørsted's ecological values into a tangible, breathtaking daily experience.

A growing strategic hub

Poland represents one of Ørsted’s most strategic global markets. The Warsaw office currently employs over 700 staff members. Together with Polska Grupa Energetyczna (Polish Energy Group), Ørsted is implementing one of the largest projects in the renewable energy sector in Poland. Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 will create the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm with a total capacity of 2.5 GW, which will significantly contribute to the transformation of Polish energy, providing green energy to nearly 4 million households. To support this massive growth, Ørsted needed to expand their Varso II presence to the 20th floor. As our second collaboration following the highly successful multi-floor project in 2020, we acted as a partner who intimately understood their evolving office standards. Our goal was to complement their existing spatial guidelines with new, innovative solutions.

Hygge Vind

The aesthetic and atmospheric concept for the top floor was defined as "hygge vind" (wind). We wanted the colours and ambience to subtly evoke the feeling of a crisp spring day by the sea. Working strictly within the client’s global "Love Your Workplace" guidelines, we aimed to inject a fresh character through local elements and advanced design methodologies. By deliberately applying neuroscientific principles and biophilic design, we ensured the interior aesthetics promote a steady, calm pulse, contrasting the dynamic, layered cityscape stretching out like an EKG line beyond the windows.

A mosaic of values

In keeping with Ørsted's position as a global leader in sustainability, minimising environmental impact remained a top priority. We prioritised recycled materials and those with an exceptionally low carbon footprint. This philosophy culminated in the floor's artistic centrepiece: located at the main crossroads of the social and meeting zones is a stunning wall mosaic depicting an offshore wind turbine. It is composed of thousands of individual ceramic waste pieces, carefully arranged in the warm, vibrant colours of the setting sun. Giving this waste a beautiful second life instils a deep sense of pride among employees, perfectly illustrating the company's business profile through intelligent, ecological art.

3

Adapting to the daily rhythm

The main objective of the floorplan was to provide a wide variety of meeting places for both employees and guests, while heavily supporting deep, focused work for selected IT teams. Positioned on the highest floor of the building, the zoning capitalises on the rejuvenating bird’s-eye views of Warsaw.

Agile workspaces

Flexible zones where employees can participate in dynamic brainstorming sessions.

Social and meeting crossroad

The vibrant heart of the floor is designed to energise users and spark collaboration.

The library

A dedicated, quiet refuge where staff can completely hide away for periods of full concentration and regeneration.

4

Neuroaesthetics in practice

Building on the knowledge gained from previous deeply researched projects — including past collaborations exploring the intersection of architecture and cognitive science — we implemented specific neuroaesthetic solutions. The entire power of the spatial experience flows from this human-centric approach. The layout was rigorously designed to allow natural light to penetrate as deeply into the interior as possible. Combined with the coastal colour palette and tactile materials, the environment actively supports the emotional balance and physical health of the users, offering a literal and metaphorical breath of fresh air throughout the workday.

A space to breathe

The 20th floor has become a distinctive, highly sought-after destination within the Ørsted headquarters. Users gained access to an environment that stimulates both development and creativity, fostering a profound connection with the organisation. By providing a place that seamlessly adapts to their varying needs — whether they need to focus, rest, rejuvenate, or collaborate — the space empowers employees to perform at their best. All of this is enriched by being amongst the clouds — both felt and natural.
